Dennis James Estes is a lifelong student of the Way whose work spans martial arts,
entrepreneurship, teaching, coaching, public speaking, and mentorship. For more than
six decades, he has studied and applied the principles that would eventually become
the foundation of the Live by Design framework and I Dō Canon.
Within the Danzan Ryū tradition, Estes holds Kaidensho, serves as a Professor of
Danzan Ryū Jujitsu, and has attained the rank of Hachidan. He approaches those
recognitions as responsibilities of stewardship rather than personal achievement:
obligations to preserve what has been entrusted, teach faithfully, and distinguish
clearly between Source and Translation.
Beyond the dojo, Estes has founded and led multiple businesses, coached entrepreneurs
and leaders, spoken to audiences throughout North America, and traveled more than one
million miles. Those experiences became a long practical test of the principles he
teaches: not whether they sound compelling, but whether they hold up under the ordinary
pressures of work, relationships, leadership, change, success, and failure.
I Dō Canon: Life by Design brings that lifetime of inquiry into a six-volume
work focused on awareness, responsibility, personal authorship, and the continuing
practice of living with conscious intent.
